Classroom Tidbits

This checklist can be used as one tool or separated into two. This may help students to improve the quality of their work, to initiate and stay on task independently, and to be more resourceful in the classroom.

These literacy task cards are great for independent reading, literature circles, and for informal assessment.

I use this as a quick assessment for story retell. I often use this with DIBELS, reading inventories, or during guided reading.

Students can use this quick sheet to help them solve word problems using the CUBES method. Just print, copy, and cut. =)

This is the response form I use with my students to compare values with Would You Rather Math. Once students are taught this as a whole class, it can be used in math centers or as an independent task.

This rubric can be used to grade discussion board responses. I also show this to my students to model the expectations for responses.

This can be displayed in the room and used to check for understanding. They can show you by holding up fingers up in the air or in front of them, writing a number on their work, or through technology. It is very easy to use.

This form can be used to monitor conferring in writer's workshop. My students are assigned numbers, and I check them off after I meet with them. I can tell which students I've already conferred with and who I still need to see.

Unpack the word problem with your students. Unpacking a word problem can help students go beyond just solving a problem but also understand the known and unknown in a word problem. They ask questions and explain their strategy. This is a multi-step addition/subtraction problem using numbers up to the ten thousands place.

This form can be used during Writing or Reading Workshop for conferring with students. Teachers can also set their own goal on the number of students they want to meet with, as we all know that there is never enough time to see everyone! =)

Use this for students who need a reminder to stay on task. Daily points can be added to earn an incentive.

This form can be used to record the results of the DRA for individual students.

This form can be used an ongoing log of DIBELS records. It's a great way to monitor progress in oral reading fluency.
