This is the response form I use with my students to compare values with Would You Rather Math. Once students are taught this as a whole class, it can be used in math centers or as an independent task.

Unpack the word problem with your students. Unpacking a word problem can help students go beyond just solving a problem but also understand the known and unknown in a word problem. They ask questions and explain their strategy. This is a multi-step addition/subtraction problem using numbers up to the ten thousands place.
