Experience

I have been teaching middle school English Language Arts for 10 years. I have taught 3 year of 6th grade ELA and 7 years 7th grade. I teach blended classes that include Gifted and Talented students, Emerging Bilingual students, and students with learning disabilities.

Teaching style

How many times have you asked a student, "Why did you choose that answer?", and they respond with, "It just sounded right." Grammar is an abstract concept for the majority of middle school students. I focus on activities that can take abstract grammar concepts and make them more tangible for students. When students do, they learn. The more they are exposed to correct grammar, the sharper their "grammar ear" becomes. Practice is essential.
