I have worked in schools as a 1:1 Aide for 3 1/2 years before getting my degree and working as a Special Educator. I have been teaching for 10 years now in a variety of settings (self-contained, consultant teaching, integrated co-taught).
These are the materials I used to pair with a story about not calling out. The book is called My Mouth is a Volcano by Julia Cook. It talks about a boy who can't control his talking out of turn and how he learns to control himself. The materials can be laminated to keep them lasting longer. The volcano is used as a talking stick and only the person holding it can be talking. The lava rocks are reminders to try the strategy from the book, raise your hand, and wait to be called on.
This is a cute little template that you can use to create quick little Valentine's cards. I cut out the image and pasted it onto construction paper to make them sturdier. There is a larger image on the second page.
