Comments Lab

Once students have learned about combining like terms, expressions, and distribution, this lesson will help solidify their knowledge by deconstructing expressions into two factors. This lesson reviews factors, how to find factors with variables, and allows students to discover a method to factoring an algebraic expression.

Using number tiles, word problems, and fun pictures, the students will be able to recognize when to add or subtract to isolate the variable. Although built as a stand alone lesson, this PowerPoint pairs well with the Big Ideas book, Lesson 3.2 - Solving One-Step Equations Using Addition and Subtraction.
