Common Corey

I have been a teacher for over a decade. I have been in the classroom with children of all ages pre-k through high school. Most recently, I have had my greatest adventure to date. I currently teach second grade and have been with my students since kindergarten. We have "looped" for the last two years, and I am hoping to do so again at the end of this year.

I enjoy sharing in the learning with my students. My teaching style is one of a discussion style.I present my students with rigorous, higher level material and encourage them to think about what we have learned and discuss it.The questions are also higher level, forcing them to venture out of their comfort zone. I also enjoy engaging in Inquiry Based Learning with my students. The more hands on we can get, the better. Material stays with a student the more time they spend engaging with a topic.

I attended school in the inner city of Buffalo, NY. The child of an Auto worker, I was raised with a serious work ethic. I was also raised to understand that everyone is equal, regardless of the color of their skin or where they come from. I have carried that into my classroom and into my learning. We are a family, a team and we treat one another as such.

I currently reside in Cleveland with my husband, our high school senior and our cat, guinea pig, parakeet, and two turtles!
