I start every class with a self introduction that lasts 45 minutes and my students then know my hobbies, interests and background, then their first homework assignment is to introduce themselves thus we know each other before the curriculum even starts. I am quite shocked how few teachers do this simple trick to create a positive classroom environment. Furthermore, I show all of my classes the marshmallow experiment as it is a short, wholly profound definition of future success: delayed gratification. A 4 year old gets a marshmallow and is told that if they wait 15 mins, then they will get 2 marshmallows. 66 % do not wait and 33% do. After this activity, any time a homework is late, or plagiarized etc.. I merely tell them that they ate the marshmallow and everyone understands that their shortcut or lack of organization will hurt them in the long run full stop. Lastly, I never lie to my students and they respect that. In terms of AI and full translation use, there are NOW two distinct groups of students: Know nothings and Super humans. Exams and summative projects will adjust to this rampant cheating and the Know nothings will be living with their parents when they are 40 due to the lack of brain synapses connections based on real effort to get done all of the work assigned in school to prepare them for university and life. The latter group will indeed be super humans as they will be limited in number and will be very productive.
