Experience

Hello! Iโ€™m Katie, the creator of Composition Curriculum. I have a Bachelor's degree in General Education and Special Education and Master's in Curriculum and Instruction. Currently, I am pursing my doctorate in the same. I have eight years of teaching experience in both Georgia and Texas. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working with a variety of learners, including ESOL, EIP, Special Education, and Gifted and Talented students. I am dedicated to creating resources that foster curiosity and a love for learning. Thank you for visiting my store, and I hope my materials will enhance your teaching experience and support your studentsโ€™ growth!

Teaching style

My approach to education is rooted in creating an engaging and interactive learning environment that caters to all students' diverse learning stylesโ€”visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. I believe that learning should be innovative, hands-on, and memorable. Thatโ€™s why I incorporate interactive notebooks into my daily lessons. These notebooks are designed to be efficient, allowing students to capture essential information without taking up too much class time. Every day, my students engage in daily scientific observations, participate in labs, and rotate through stations to reinforce their understanding of key concepts. I strive to make learning fun and relevant. My classroom features a game review center and task cards that provide dynamic opportunities for students to review content in a playful manner. Each day, students engage in reading, writing, and problem-solving activities that ensure they are well-prepared for daily standardized test questions. Building a strong class culture and community is vital to my teaching style. I support this through morning meetings that foster relationships and create a safe environment for discussions and debates. I love to incorporate art and brain breaks to keep the energy high and to ensure that my students remain engaged throughout the day. My lessons are designed to prepare upper elementary students for middle school and beyond. I incorporate drill sessions and daily reviews to reinforce learning and help students solidify their understanding of scientific concepts. Whether we are measuring volume with graduated cylinders, determining mass with triple beam balances, or exploring adaptations through sensory bins, every experience is aimed at creating lasting memories. In my classroom, every student has the opportunity to thrive, and I am dedicated to tailoring my instruction to meet the needs of every learner. Thank you for visiting my store, and I hope my resources inspire you to create unforgettable learning experiences for your students!

Awards & shining teacher moments

Throughout my teaching journey, I have been fortunate to experience numerous rewarding moments that affirm my commitment to education and my students. I am proud to have been nominated for Teacher of the Year, which is a testament to my dedication and passion for fostering a positive and effective learning environment. This nomination reflects not only my hard work but also the support and encouragement from my colleagues and students. As a 5th grade team leader, I have had the privilege of collaborating with fellow educators to enhance our curriculum and improve student outcomes. Leading a team allows me to share innovative ideas and strategies that benefit both teachers and students. Together, we create an engaging and supportive atmosphere that encourages growth and success. I have consistently received positive evaluations, highlighting my effectiveness in the classroom and my ability to connect with students. High marking evaluations reflect my commitment to excellence and my dedication to meeting the diverse needs of all learners. These accolades motivate me to continuously improve my practice and seek new ways to inspire my students. Additionally, I have been recognized as a district leader in elementary science. This recognition affirms my passion for science education and my efforts to engage students in hands-on, inquiry-based learning. I strive to ignite curiosity and a love for science in my students, encouraging them to explore and discover the world around them. Each of these moments and recognitions fuels my passion for teaching and confirms my belief that every student deserves a nurturing and dynamic learning environment. I am grateful for the opportunities I have had to grow as an educator and look forward to creating more shining moments in the future!

My own education history

I have a strong educational foundation that supports my passion for teaching and my commitment to student success. I earned my Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood and Special Education from Georgia State University and North Georgia College and State University. This dual focus has equipped me with the skills and knowledge to meet the diverse needs of young learners, including those with special needs. Additionally, I hold a reading endorsement, which allows me to support students in developing essential literacy skills. To further enhance my expertise in education, I pursued a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Thomas University. This advanced degree has deepened my understanding of effective teaching strategies and curriculum development, enabling me to create engaging and meaningful learning experiences for my students. My educational background not only informs my teaching practices but also fuels my passion for continuous learning and improvement in the field of education. I am dedicated to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for all learners, ensuring they have the tools they need to thrive academically and personally.

Additional biographical information

I am proud to call southern Georgia my home, where I live with my wonderful spouse. As a military spouse, I have gained unique experiences and perspectives that enrich my teaching and personal life. The military lifestyle has taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of community, all of which I strive to instill in my students. In addition to my passion for education, I am also a wedding photographer. Capturing special moments and emotions on one of the most significant days in people's lives allows me to express my creativity and connect with others in a meaningful way. Balancing my roles as an educator and photographer enables me to bring a unique perspective to my classroom, where creativity and personal expression are valued. These experiences shape who I am as an educator and person, allowing me to connect with my students and their families on multiple levels. I believe in the power of relationships, both in and out of the classroom, and strive to create a supportive and engaging environment for all.
