The activity provides students with data collected from several trials using various lab equipment and asks them to calculate average measurements and percent error. Students must then comment on the equipment's accuracy and precision. Students must also record measurements from 8 images of lab equipment (beakers, graduated cylinders, and burettes) and determine the correct number of significant digits. This is a great E-Learning alternative to a traditional Reading Lab Equipment or Accuracy/Pre
This bingo activity will require students to quickly match a compound with its name in order to "bingo." This is a great competition activity and can be used in standard level chemistry or as a review in AP Chemistry. Instructions, name/formula lists and bingo grid included. (Includes naming compounds containing metals with variable charges, polyatomic ions, and acids).
This is an assignment that requires students to apply the skills of predicting the products of single replacement reactions, determining limiting reactant, and determining percent yield to a real world example. In the assignment students will have to analyze proposed industrial methods for isolating pure silver in order to determine the most efficient and cheapest (using actual market values of chemicals) reaction to use.
The document contains 23 science discussion topics. Topics range from ethical issues (example- Should species created in a lab be released into nature? What if it helped solve hunger?) to other controversial and discussion provoking topics (example- Should samples of eradicated diseases such as smallpox be destroyed?) I allow students to select a topic, do research, and take turns leading that weekly discussion.
