Connected Learning

I have taught at the same school for 31 years, and pretty much the same grade. I started as a second grade teacher, then moved to third, most of time has been as a fifth grade teacher, with one year at fourth grade.

Lots of questions to get students thinking, group work, students communicating with the class, team work, growth mindset, idea of being a WE, and not a ME.

Runner up for social studies teacher of the year.

I have a masters plus 45, my masters degree is in gifted and talented. I have created curriculum for school wide use, from grades K-5, on The BIll of Rights, The Constitution and the election process. My mom taught at the university level in education. She was the first person to learn strategies from the people who created them, Taba, Suchman, Galliger, etc. I grew up hearing and learning about these people and their strategies.

Team work is important to the growth and success of every student. I want them to feel empathy for others, help others, which will in the end, help them deal with many different types of kids, when they get to middle school. I have two Old English Sheepdogs, named Niles and Daphne. Yes, from Frazier(If you're old enough to remember that show) I also have two grandchildren, who are being home schooled. They are 12 and 9, so I have experience working with kids who are being home schooled.
