The operation of addition is based on the counting of objects. This introduction to the addition of mixed numbers uses pictures of halves, thirds, sixths, and eighths to first engage students in counting by halves, thirds, etc. so that finding sums will feel intuitive.

Many third and fourth graders are frustrated by computation skills because they are not yet fluent in their recall of math facts. Most of the pages in this bundle have fact recall prompts at the top of the page. This makes it possible for the student to strengthen computation skills and practice number facts at the same time. The pages are ideal for homework, for homeschooling, and for remediation work.

This twelve page packet begins with a carefully sequenced review of harder addition facts. The later pages contain three-digit plus three-digit controlled facts practice. These sheets are helpful to 2nd - 4th grade students who struggle with multidigit addition with renaming because their recall of math facts is slow. The term "controlled fact" means that the student is using the same math facts repeatedly on a page: an example is 235 + 999.

The fifteen page packet begins with a review of the 6, 7, 8, and 9 multiplication facts. The multiples are presented in a matrix format: for example, the multiples of 6 are presented as nine or more rows with a sequence of six counting numbers in each row. On several of the facts practice pages multiples are contrasted to addends of the same number using the same spatial organizer. This 16-page packet has math facts review at the top of each page and uses the same divisor on each page. Because the dividends are presented in increasing order, students can begin to see a pattern to their quotients. The pages in which students practice with 2-digit divisors use the same divisor on each page, and they begin by completing sequences made up of multiples of that divisor. Some students struggle with the concept of long division. Using the same divisor on a page makes it possible for students to recognize a pattern to their quotients as they divide increasingly large dividends by the same divisor. These sheets are presented in a controlled fact format so that students are not struggling to recall many different facts while also learning the division algorithm.

Some children find subtraction with renaming (regrouping) difficult because they struggle to recall number facts. These worksheets are presented in a controlled fact format so that the student can practice the skill of multidigit subtraction while at the same time practicing a single family of number facts.
