Depending on how you want to structure your course, you may, for instance, pick and choose from the assignments and readings included here.  A solid block of time devoted to Things Fall Apart may be punctuated by one or two close-reading assignments presented in this unit, or students may find the material here as helpful supplements to their concentrated work on one novel.

This short analytic rubric allows is basic enough that it can be used in a variety of writing assignments and classes. Assesses CONTENT, STRUCTURE, and FORMAT. Key terms on rubric are "claim, evidence, reasoning, thesis" (for content); "intro, body, conclusion, topic sentence, supporting details" (for structure), and "heading, work cited, spacing" (for format). This basic rubric contains a section for STUDENT COMMENTS and TEACHER COMMENTS, so allows for peer-and self- reflection as well as tea
