After my students are benchmarked I give them a bookmarker to help them when selecting their own independent books. I highlight the Independent Level of the student (and one or two lower) so they know what books they can grab to read during indpendent reading time. As long as they haven't lost them, I use a different colored highlighter as the year goes on to mark their progress!

This poster will help kids assess what they know about a topic already, especially helpful with vocabulary.
