Are you introducing main idea to your students? Try this mini-lesson! Organize 5-7 "Main Idea Bags" using plastic or paper bags. In each bag, add small items or pictures of items that together create a shared idea. EXAMPLES: Movie Theater- popcorn, candy, pop, movie School- crayons, erasers, pencils, sticky notes Beach- shell, toy fish, sunblock, sunglasses Have students look at the contents of the bag and decide what the main idea is. They can use the recording sheet for their responses.
