More than 50 word wall tiles. It includes most words for the common core grade 8 math curriculum and also important review terms from grade 7. I post the review terms all year and post the 8th grade terms as they are introduced in class. I do this by stapling strips of ribbon to a bulletin board and attaching the word cards with a clothespin. Each tile includes a graphic to help recall its definition.

Students calculate the constant of proportionality from tables, word problems, and ratios. The answers tell them the color to use in a halloween-themed coloring page.

Students work in groups of three to create a drawing of a park. Before drawing each part of the park, each group member must answer a math problem. The problems involved properties of exponents and scientific notation.

Students are asked to solve problems involving signed rational numbers in groups of three. After each round, students draw a part of a haunted house. In the end, two teams are rewarded-- the first to answer all problems correctly and the best haunted house drawing.

Students apply their understanding of the percent proportion or equation to problems involving graphs and tables. This scavenger hunt is self checking-- students locate their answers on another problem's paper. Answer key included.

4 by 4 puzzle that requires students to simplify expressions involving products of powers, quotient of powers, and powers of powers. Students will attempt to arrange the 16 pieces into a 4 by 4 array. Each pair of touching edges should form a match: an expression and its simplified version. In the end the arrangement will spell out an answer to a riddle.
