Teaching 3rd-grade math for the past five years has been an incredible journey filled with challenges, growth, and rewarding moments. At my school, a diverse and supportive community, every day brings opportunities to help students build confidence in their math skills while fostering a love for learning. One of the most fulfilling aspects of teaching is seeing the "aha" moments when a student finally grasps a challenging concept. There’s a strong emphasis on meeting students where they are and helping them achieve success, not just academically but also socially and emotionally.
Building relationships is just as important as teaching content. Creating a classroom environment where students feel safe, valued, and encouraged to take risks is essential. For me, teaching is more than just a job—it’s a responsibility that I take to heart. I care for my students as if they were my own children. Their successes fill me with pride, their struggles weigh on me, and I will always advocate for what’s best for them. I want them to know they are loved, supported, and capable of achieving great things.
There are certainly challenges—meeting diverse needs, keeping students engaged, and adapting to curriculum changes—but the rewards far outweigh them. Seeing students develop not just math skills but also problem-solving abilities, perseverance, and confidence is what makes this work so meaningful.
