An excellent STEM project to explore equations and inequalities, while also using creativity and engineering! Student develop and plan a marshmallow bridge, purchase materials from you using an imaginary budget, and then construct it over the next couple of days. At the end, the students create a poster of their design and thinking. It's an extremely fun project and the students really enjoy the hands on approach to working with money and mathematics. Performance Task designed to be used as a final exam for IB Applications & Interpretations, but can be used for any high school math class looking for a fun research that takes a couple class periods. Students explore the Towers of Hanoi and the sequence created by the solving pattern.

A great resource for International Baccalaureate mathematics! Although it can be used for non-IB classes, as well. I have used it for a midterm, but it can be used for an end-of-unit assessment, as well. This research project/performance task is designed to explore Pascal's triangle, its history, relationship with Sierpinski's triangle, and how it is used in the field of mathematics.
