I use this as a summative assignment after teaching students the difference between weight and mass. Students pick an object (I have listed 5 to choose from, or they can pick something of their own) and determine how much it would weigh on other celestial objects. Students have to calculate and graph their findings as well as analyze the results. This is a great summative assignment for Criteria B and Criteria C for any MYP IB classes. It took my 8th grade students 2 class periods (about 2 hours
Great SEL activity for middle school students. It can also be used in Science as an activity to introduce stimuli and responses (nervous system). Students are given 5 examples of stimuli that they may experience in their lives. They then have to write down a "poor response" and a "healthy response" to the stimuli. There is an example on the worksheet: Stimulus: Someone making fun of your clothes Poor Response: Making fun of their clothes Healthy Response: Complimenting yourself on the clothes
This is a worksheet that can be used for introducing speed and motion, or it could be an activity for students who finish early. Students circle which speed is faster for each question and then color the corresponding space on the coloring page to reveal a hidden image.
For Classroom Jobs, I have students apply for positions and then I "hire" them, just like they would in the real world. Here's what I use when they are hired and I hand them the slip of paper as a "contract" which they have to sign. Included in this is a colorful and fun printout that has 6 slips on 1 page -- yay for printing on less pieces of paper! I also included a black and white version in case you can't print in color (like me) at school. This pdf is not editable.
