Creating a Contemplative Class

In this bundle, students will complete research on their desired careers, current skill sets, college/training choices, and their desired future living location(s) to help them determine a possible path forward post-high school. The culminating project choices allow students to display and present their research in a variety of ways.

Use this google form quiz to show student understanding of compound light microscope use and parts. It includes questions about the proper use of each of the microscope parts, magnification, and includes a diagram students label.

Using the internet and open-ended questions, students research and evaluate 4 unethical scientific experiments that occurred in the United States over the last century: Tuskegee Study of Syphilis, Stanford Prison Experiment, Skid Row Cancer Study, Human Radiation Experiments. The student research conducted will inevitably result in content that can be difficult for younger students to both accept and understand. This is recommended for upper high school and college-aged students.

In this interactive Google Slides activity, students click, drag, and engage with slides to review Sun-Moon-Earth relationships, reinforcing their understanding of moon phases, tides, and seasons.

I use this product as an interactive notebook cut & paste activity. Students cut out enough of the pieces to create and label three properly bonded water molecules. This activity can also be uploaded as an interactive slide for students to move pieces around to create the same thing.

Using various websites, students will do the interesting work of researching locations of where they may want to live and work. They will then use information about that area to determine if the lifestyle they dream of is possible with their desired occupation, house/apartment choices and the general costs of living independently. Over time, I've developed a new approach to introducing vocabulary. Since students naturally turn to Google and Google Images for word meanings, I designed vocabulary activities that align with their process. This way, they engage more deeply with the words before we even begin exploring them in depth. In this vocabulary work, students will research Einstein's Theory of Relativity, black holes, time dilation and apply time dilation to a small visual of Christopher Nolan's "Interstellar."

Use the following google slide set to have students match and drag macromolecules with their functions and monomers. This works great as a virtual follow-up after reviewing macromolecules in class.

Students complete a 14 question google form evaluating the various properties of water. This can be used as a way for students to use their water property notes after direct instruction or as an assessment tool.

Students will use this graphic organizer to research 2 occupations they are interested in as identified through a work values test (see Career Cluster worksheet.)

Using the website: https://www.123test.com/work-values-test/ students will identify their work values and related career clusters. From there, they will use internet research to identify related occupations that they are interested in and the required education required for each.

In this activity, students reflect on their current skill-sets related to post high school endeavors. This activity is meant to create a conversation about how prepared students feel about continuing their education after high school and identifying areas that they can improve before they are college or career-bound.

I use this sheet towards the end of the photosynthesis and respiration unit. They are not allowed to use any resources...just their mind!! I usually copy it to both sides of the paper.
