Experience

I have almost 18 years of experience in Education. I started out as a substitute teacher then became an instructional assistant. I went back to school and earned my bachelor's and master's degree. I have taught elementary, gifted and talented, mid-level English language arts, high school theatre, and art. I also own a small art business and have taught independent art classes for 14 years. I am currently an adult education instructor and work as an artist through my own small art business.

Teaching style

My teaching style centers on hands-on, experiential learning that encourages creativity, critical thinking, and student ownership. I design lessons where learners actively engage through projects, collaboration, and real-world applications, allowing students to learn by doing rather than passively receiving information.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I have been recognized for leadership and innovation in gifted education, arts integration, and community-based learning. Highlights include presenting at the Arkansas Gifted and Talented Conference in 2022 and 2023, receiving the AEGIS grant in 2021 and 2023, and serving as the Gifted and Talented Facilitator/Coordinator for my school district at the time. I have also coached Odyssey of the Mind and Quiz Bowl teams, directed high school theatre productions, and instructed community art camps. These accomplishments reflect my commitment to creativity, student empowerment, and meaningful educational experiences.

My own education history

°Graduated from Arkansas State University with Bachelor's of Early Childhood Education °Master's in Gifted and Talented Education from Arkansas State University

Additional biographical information

I am a married mother of four children, ages 17 to 27, and family is the heart of my life. My love for creativity and learning has shaped both my career and the way I show up for others. I am passionate about nurturing creativity in students and encouraging them to think deeply, ask questions, and see their own potential. I believe creativity builds confidence, connection, and resilience, and I strive to create spaces—whether in the classroom or the community—where people feel supported, inspired, and free to grow.
