This quiz is to assess students knowledge of identifying the main idea of a passage. The students will be asked 10 questions. The first 2 are multiple choice about the definition of main idea. Then, there are 8 multiple choice questions (one question selecting checkboxes) asking students to identify the main idea and/or supporting details from a short nonfiction passage.

A great way to structure a response to reading is through the use of the acronym RACES. This stands for: Restate the question, Answer the question, Cite evidence from the text, Explain your thinking, and Strong conclusion.
