Experience

I have 24 years experience teaching dance and movement and hold Royal Academy of Dance Registered Teacher status.I have been sought after to teach in a variety of classroom settings including: elementary schools, private dance schools,a professional ballet company and recreation centres. I currently lead a successful ballet program, where I prepare students for world recognized dance examinations and international competitions each year. Additionally, I continue to also teach younger students with more of a creative movement based curriculum. In addition to teaching dance, I am in my 4th year of homeschooling my children.

Teaching style

In my classroom, I strive to have children find the joy in movement, but with a focus on exploring that movement in a productive way. I believe it is important to direct the students in learning new steps or movements, but I strive to balance that with more student focused approaches. I like to facilitate discussions with the students, so that they are analyzing how to do their movements with proper technique, interesting movement quality or artistic expression. I also focus on peer to peer explorations, which might include helping evaluate steps or learning to dance together.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I hold the honour of Associate of the Royal Academy of Dance. I have received scholarships and recognition from the Richmond Arts Council, British Columbia Festival of the Arts, University of Oklahoma dance department and many choreography awards from competitions.
