I have taught World Civilizations for 7 years, ESL for 3 years, and Introduction to Human Behavior for 1 year! I love creating fun, interactive resources for my students to meet them where they are while also challenge them to meet their goals.
Students were split into groups and sent in to different classrooms around the school to act as real life ethnographers! Students loved this hands on activity and had a great time watching and interacting with other classes (cultures) while they filled in their data collection sheets. Once all data was collected, we discussed their findings as a class. This activity was a truly memorable experience that has stuck with them over the course of the school year!
Students and teachers alike will LOVE this interactive and hands on activity. All you will need is a piece of fabric for the TOUCH sensation and a scent that you can spray in the room for the SMELL sensation. There is a short introduction on Wundt and him impact on modern day psychology and then the activity begins to immerse students in tactile learning! All instructions are in the PowerPoint!
This is an in class project with six options that connect the film Ferris Bueller's Day Off with developmental psychology. Students viewed the film and took notes in class, were then assigned a character to analyze, and chose a style of presentation from a list of project options to allow for creativity for a variety of styles of learning. Students loved the freedom that this project allowed for and the finished products were amazing!

Culture- What Does It Mean? This was a great introduction to cultural anthropology that laid the groundwork for the basic concepts while also allowing students to brainstorm on their own to realize all that they already knew about cultural differences! There is a link in the notes of a great Ted Talk video (How Culture Drives Behavior) that engaged students, made them laugh, and helped to deepen in class connections as we explored it as a class!
This lesson discusses kinship and family ties across different communities and in different cultures! Students will become familiar with basic terminology supported by examples throughout. There is an embedded link to a video on kinship structures that the teacher can play for students to see examples of each type of structure in real life around the world. The teacher can then pause the video throughout to support the clip with in class discussion and connections to student generated examples!
This project uses the film Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone as a medium for students to view Jung's different archetypes in a fun and relatable way! Students watch the film in class with a chart that they use to jot down which characters they feel fit into the different archetypes. They are then assigned a character from the movie as the focal point of the project! The final product is something that you will want to put on display!
I used this note presentation as an introduction to ethnography as part of my unit on Anthropology. I paired it with a simulation of ethnographic research in the classroom! This set of notes allowed for students to develop an understanding of ethnography in an easy to learn and applicable way! There are YouTube links in the notes section throughout the slides to help support student learning through visual examples!
This is a great introductory lesson on Anthropology! The teacher can use the slides to review some of the basic concepts of the unit with examples as well as show students a variety of pictures to help them to categorize different branches of anthropological study.
