This is my 22nd year teaching High School Biology in North Carolina! I am always looking to improve my teaching and the experince for my students in the classroom!
This product includes a chart to fill in with questions regarding certain traits that are affected by the environment. Each question has a link to a scientific article about that phenomenon. My students fill in the chart on paper, but can access the document to click on links.
This product introduces biological classification. It has two diagrams used for analysis, inlcuded a diagram that illustrates the different taxonomic groups and a chart that compares the taxa of 4 different animals. There is also a very simple dichotomous key included to introduce the concept. This was created using North Carolina 2024 Biology standards.
This product includes three versions of my cell cycle notes. One is completely filled out (answer key), one has fill in the blank notes, and one is empty. I use the fill in the blank for my ESL and lower level students and the empty one for my honors students. I post the key on our LMS for students who are absent.
This product includes a Google drive file with questions that can be answered by clicking through an interactive from PBS Nova that has a side-by-side comparison of the processes of Mitosis vs Meiosis. This could be used as part of a flipped classroom or a homework assignment to introduce the topic, or it could be completed together as a class.
This product provides a clear and engaging visual comparison of aerobic and anaerobic respiration. It features a side-by-side diagram illustrating the key differences in energy production, oxygen usage, and byproducts of each process. This would be great as a review.
This product was created to accompany Cornell's "All About Bird Anatomy" interactive. Great for a wildlife class or other type of science class that studies comparative anatomy. Students will click on various structures within a bird, identify the structure and describe it's function. I used this in my wildlife class as we were comparing anatomy and physiology of the vertebrates.
This product includes a picture of a city structure for 11 parts of a cell. There are 11 statements where the students decide which cell organelle corresponds with each city structure.
This product allows students to see that all cells have the same DNA, but specialized cells have a different combination of genes activated. There is a chart of actual genes/proteins that are activated in various body cells. They will color code based on which genes are activated in each specific cell. This is a great visual to reinforce the concept of differentiation.
This product includes a fill in the blank set of notes, with answer key, on both the positive and negative impacts humans have made on ecosystems. I made this visual notes worksheet to help support my ESL and lower level students.
This product includes a link to a publication by the Virginia Cooperative Extension with 31 accompanying questions. The article focuses on frog diversity and conservation. I used this in my wildlife class as an introduction to frogs and amphibians. Includes a web link to the article and a Google Drive link to a downloaded version of the article, in the event the web link becomes inactive.
I use this in my Biology class to reinforce the concept of energy flow after I have given notes. It can also be used as a reivew at the end of the year.
