About the store
For someone who is not currently employed as a teacher (I'm actually an Engineer), I seem to spend quite a bit of time in front of a class. My kids are in grade 3 and SK, and I've done various presentations in their classrooms, from an introduction to the solar system, to demonstrations of simple machines. I also help out in some other classes in the school, taking groups of students to do science experiments, math assessments, or anything else that's needed. At various times, I've tutored small groups in math or reading during breaks or after school. Basically, I like to pitch in wherever I'm needed!

Math Facts Quiz for EQAO Grade 3 (CSDAX004b)

Last updated Feb 2018, to include the review of questions from recent years, up to 2017. I went through all the published sections of the Grade 3 EQAO tests for the years 2010 - 2017, to find the 'math facts'. These are facts that need to be known before a question can be answered, such as the number of hours in a day. This multiple choice quiz includes ALL of these math facts from questions released from these years' tests. On the teacher's answer sheet, questions are marked to show which y

Measurement: That's Impossible!

If you told a class that your sister was 3 metres tall, would they believe you? This set of statements about measurements is intended to help classes consider what's reasonable and what's not. They're intended to be discussed as a class, rather than worked on individually, and provide a great focus for discussion. We spend a lot of time teaching measurement in math and, even with our best intentions, students can sometimes feel bogged down in numbers and abstract concepts. These sheets are

Multiply or Divide? (CSDAX016)

Many students have difficulty with word problems, deciding what numbers they need to use, and whether to multiply or divide. This worksheet gives them practice at interpreting the questions, with relatively simple numbers and situations. The question is given to the students, followed by a multiple choice of equations to use. The Zip file includes an older Word format, and a pdf.

Place Value game for individuals or classes - "Digits and Dice" (CSDAX002)

This is a game that can be played individually or with a large class. The aim is to make the biggest 4-digit number possible, using numbers rolled on a die. Students roll a die and have to decide whether to write the digit in the units, tens, hundreds or thousands column. Once they've written the digit, they can't move it. They roll again to get another digit to place, until they have a 4-digit number. This is a way to help students learn about place value, and how the value of a digit can

At various times, I've tutored small groups in math or reading during breaks or after school. Basically, I like to pitch in wherever I'm needed!

Teaching style

I'm very much a 'stand-at-the-front-of-the-class-and-explain-stuff' kind of teacher. I like to interact and have the students ask questions and lead the direction of the discussion to where they're interested. Almost any subject can lead off in six different directions, but all of them help to give students a deeper 'grasp' of the whole subject, rather than determining in advance which specific details to focus on. When kids really understand a subject, they don't need to worry about memorizing details because the details fall into place on top of the foundation of understanding.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Kids enjoy my teaching and understand when I explain things. That's good enough for me!

My own education history

Instead of studying teaching my whole time at university, I started by getting my Engineering Degree, then did my teacher training after that. After a year or two of teaching high school math, I chose Engineering as my career. I just do the teaching for fun!

Additional biographical information

I love Teachers Pay Teachers! I've spent so much time writing worksheets, and it's good to now be able to see if others have already done something I can use, or if I can share mine so other teachers don't have to duplicate my time. Win-win!
