Experience

In that time, I have created and chaired many art-related projects that address cultural issues, both in the U.S. and around the globe. Teaching style

I believe students learn in a variety of ways and it is important to include visual, auditory, and kinesthetic options into each lesson, but also to include cultural elements into the curriculum that will include as many students as possible. I believe in centering student voice and engaging students in meaningful dialogue with other students that they may never taken the initiative to do before.

My own education history

Masters in Education: Teacher Leadership & Educational Technology, Concordia University, Portland, Oregon, 2015 Bachelors in Political Science: University of Washington, Seattle, 2006 Certificate in Photography & Graphic Design: University of Washington, Seattle, 2002

Additional biographical information

I have been an American Teacher living abroad in Nairobi, Kenya. I have always wanted to teach cultural studies (my minor in college was African Studies). I have one daughter who attended the local Kenyan school system and I thought it would be great to combine my art and technology background, with real world experience and connections to Kenyan life and culture, and help other teachers use accurate, create, and fun resources that will teach students about Kenya, and other African countries in their classrooms. Additionally, I teach IB Visual Arts, which is my current focus in developing curriculum materials.
