About the store

Experience

This is my 12th year teaching and I absolutely love it! While I've worked with a variety of grade levels, 5th grade is my first love. I primarily teach GATE, but I've also had extensive experience with general education and RTI as well.

Teaching style

I'm all about the hands on learning opportunities. Students learn so much more from their peers, so I try to foster this as much as possible in my classroom and in the activities that I create. I'm all about asking questions and love keeping kiddos curious about the world around them. I have high expectations, but am the first to meet students where they are at and provide necessary scaffolding. I am an outdoor enthusiastic and I try to incorporate that in my activities as much as possible!

Awards & shining teacher moments

I've received the "outstanding teacher" award numerous times as well as "teacher of the year" at my school. Parents and students alike love me because I strive to make connections with them and keep learning relevant and exciting. I'm hoping you will see this reflected in the activities you purchase of mine. I've been the designated 5th grade GATE teacher at my school for 10 years now and you will also see this ability for higher level thinking reflected in the products I create.

My own education history

I received my Bachelor's degree from California Baptist University in Riverside in Liberal Studies. I then attended California State University, Fullerton to earn my teaching credential as well as my Masters in Elementary Curriculum Design & Instruction. Social justice is my passion which is reflected in my thesis "Using Existing Social Studies Standards to Promote Societal Change". Lastly, I have two years of GATE instruction through my district as well my GATE certification through UCI.

Additional biographical information

If I'm not creating content or teaching my fabulous kiddos, you can find me hanging out with my husband and two kiddos. We love the outdoors and spend all of our summers traveling around the U.S. rock climbing, canyoneering, backpacking, and alpine climbing.
