Students will learn and reinforce vocabulary for the following parts of an apple: skin, stem, flesh, core, and seeds.
The teacher cuts actual apples into pieces and discusses with students these parts and corresponding vocabulary.
Students take a turn matching the paper vocabulary words with the correct apple parts.
Finally students have their own worksheet showing a cross-section of an apple. Students match the apple vocabulary words to the apple parts on the worksheet and then color thei
Students learn about four different apple varieties: Red Delicious, McIntosh, Golden Delicious, and Granny Smith. They describe and sample each apple, then color it. This activity may be done solo or along with the book How Do Apples Grow? by Betsy Maestro. (The book shows these four apples when explaining that apples are different colors because of how sunlight helps change the skin color of some apples.)
