About the store
Within the public education system, I have served as an exceptional, general, and gifted education teacher for grades K-12th. In addition to being a traditional classroom teacher, I have experience as a home bound and summer school teacher. For the most part, I have taught in almost every educational setting: self-contained, resourced, tutorial, inclusion, and on-line. I have taught the following content areas: Reading, Writing, Math, Science, Social Studies, Test Prep, Career Explorations, Bible, Medical Terminology, and Learning Strategies. This past August, I started my very own school called Self-Discovery Learning Center. I serve students ages 6 and older. I teach to the individual student based on his or her learning style. In my spare time, I tutor college students for the Praxis I and II as well as master degree level classes.

Teaching style

Typically, I do not teach using direct instruction through lecture only. I do my best to incorporate all of the language modalities and use differentiated instruction. As mentioned, I teach to the individual student. I incorporate multi-sensory, VAK methods, and Garner's theory of multiple intelligence. My teaching is more student-centered than teacher-centered. I serve as a facilitator/guide. I utilize the gradual release of responsibility when introduces new content; however, I personally believe in teaching concept based. Therefore, teach content areas as integrated units rather than in isolation. I do not use textbooks as the only resource. However, as a primary base I use the A Beka program in my school as a guide.
