Experience
I have been teaching dance in public education for over 20 years. It is my hope that the resources I have developed for my own teaching practice can benefit dance educators everywhere. I am just getting my store off the ground and I appreciate your feedback and encouragement!
Teaching style
The majority of my experience in teaching dance has been in a PK-8th grade public school. I have also taught in the high school and private studio setting. I like to develop well-rounded units for my students that include dance concepts, dance history, and literacy. I also integrate social emotional learning and mindfulness into all my lessons.
Awards & shining teacher moments
My proudest moments are when my students have the confidence to perform on stage and showcase their learning for their family and friends. The way their faces light up when an audience applauds them brings me great joy. Awards? I am a former Dance Educator of the Year for my State and I also was the first dance educator awarded the Alumna of Excellence from my university.
My own education history
I have a BFA in Dance Education and an MEd in Educational Leadership. I started teaching in the studio setting while in high school and have been teaching dance in public education for more than twenty years. As I have mentored new teachers and facilitated professional learning in my district, I have been developing tools to support dance educators in their practice. I hope you will find my resources useful!
Additional biographical information
When I am not busy teaching students or coaching educators, I enjoy exploring the city and neighborhood where I live, binge-watching shows with my teenager, dining out or ordering in, reading, and sitting on my porch.
