Teaching style

Thinking outside Pandora’s box. Opening Pandora’s mind. Everything I do as an educator is guided by a professional philosophy based on these axioms:  Teacher and student are learning partners.  Young people are unique and autonomous individuals who have self-sovereignty.  Young people are always actively learning, as Montessori proved.  instruction must be driven by inspiration, rather than coercion.  Learning should be a balanced exploration of competing explanations for things, not the adult’s personal agendas  Student self-direction  individualization of learning based on the student’s interests

Awards & shining teacher moments

I am remembered by many students and parents for making life-changing differences in the life paths of struggling students. Inspiring a fourth grade student to have the will to start reading again; preventing a teen with a learning disorder from dropping out of school; reigniting the desire to study in a homebound teen with PANDAS; and my work with many inner city children, which resulted in some gaining access to exceptional schools. My favorite recent achievement was when a mother told me that her ten year old was so inspired by my science lessons that she decided to take up astronomy and decorate her room like the solar system.
