This is an interactive activity to introduce students -- experientially -- to the background of Khaled Hosseini's novel The Kite Runner. It's a great touchstone simulation that you can refer back to throughout the unit. The activity begins with some warmup and norms, then becomes an interactive simulation with three parts, with a "stop and debrief" reflection after each part. The slide deck also includes some language supports and checks for understanding that go beyond the simulation itself.
