I was a substitute for grades K through 12 for a year. Then I tutored grades 1-3 for a year. Now I have been teaching 4th grade for 3 years, 1 year in a charter school and 2 in public schools.
Students practice their adding and subtraction skills with this mini game. Student battle each other trying to have the largest number and win the most points. It also works on some comparing skills also. This can be easily adapted to include decimals and is already modified for struggling learners and challenging for advanced learners.
I noticed my 4th graders struggled with 2-digit multiplication. I taught my students the steps having them circle each step in a different color. This helped them really see where each number was places and which numbers to multiply by. After some practice, I take away the colors.
This is a template for multiplying with color. I put these in plastic paper protectors and have my students practice multiplying with a dry erase marker.
My students really struggled to rewrite all their steps when solving multistep problems. This just gave them steps to follow and help them out. It is a very basic template and can easily be edited to fit your classroom.
