I noticed my 4th graders struggled with 2-digit multiplication. I taught my students the steps having them circle each step in a different color. This helped them really see where each number was places and which numbers to multiply by. After some practice, I take away the colors. This is a template for multiplying with color. I put these in plastic paper protectors and have my students practice multiplying with a dry erase marker.

My students really struggled to rewrite all their steps when solving multistep problems. This just gave them steps to follow and help them out. It is a very basic template and can easily be edited to fit your classroom.
