This worksheet is meant for students to practice what they have learned regarding combining like terms and distribution. The last column is for students to apply what they have practiced on problems that ask students to first distribute and then to combine like terms. Each page contains two identical worksheets.

This is an awesome worksheet because it requires students to write in words what they are doing in each step as they solve an equation. This worksheets takes solving equations to another level because students engrain the math they are completing much better by writing out what they are doing. Please note that the number of steps contained in each problem is the maximum number of steps and that students may solve them in less steps.

This worksheet is more than just drill and kill with order of operations. It requires student to articulate answers using words, to investigate claims as whether they are true or false and explain how they know they are correct, and to analyze if steps made are correct. This worksheet could be given after the students have been introduced to the idea of order of operations. It could also be given as a quiz.
