This instruction guide walks students (and us teachers) through the process of entering data into an Excel spreadsheet and turning it into a line graph. This 10-page guide contains numerous screen shots to help explain each step. The guide can be used along with laboratory investigations and projects common to physics, chemistry, and biology, as well as courses in mathematics, economics, meteorology, sociology, etc. If your students need to learn how to graph the data they collect, this guide w

Galileo and the Pendulum is a 3-day Smartboard presentation that trains students to use the scientific method as they explore the story of Galileo's early pendulum experiments. The presentation leads students to construct their own experiments to show how swing size, mass, and string length affect the period of a pendulum. The presentation also helps students learn to create formal reports based on their experiments. The conclusion of the presentation summarizes their findings, reinforces the sc

About the store

Experience

I've taught high school science for over 20 years. My bachelor's and master's degrees are in physics and I am a National Board Certified Teacher.

Teaching style

I like to start with the basics and help my students build their way up to more complex ideas. We work with a Smartboard and dry erase boards as well as computers, sensors, and graphing programs. At the physical science level we construct most of our own labs. I've already started working with drafts of Next Generation Science Standards and I'm looking forward to using them in their final form.

National Board Certified Teacher

My own education history

I earned a B.S. in Physics from Iowa State University and a M.S. in Physics from Western Illinois University. I continue to learn every day, especially from my students as they challenge me with good questions and new points of view.
