Students will research an animal to learn about what attributes they possess related to their senses and how those senses support survival, growth, behavior, or reproduction. This project includes organizers for research and a rubric.

This is a template I use with my class to create rubrics together as a class. It has categories to fill in the criteria for the assignment along with a section for self-assessment and a section for teacher assessment!
These documents are to be used during student's Genius Hour projects. The first progress chart has guiding questions for 5 stages of student Genius Hour planning. There is a space available for them to document their work as well. There is a rubric which accompanies the progress chart for all five stages.
In this math challenge, students must design their own amusement park using addition and subtraction skills. They must add up the cost of rides (up through 5 digit numbers) as well as account for discounts and fees that come with each ride!
This math challenge requires students to design a new business district for a downtown city. As they add dimensions to their businesses, they must calculate the area of each business and stay under a specified budget. They then must write a letter to the mayor of their city defending their business plan!
Note: This is specific for Hagerstown, MD, but please feel free to modify it for your town!
This assessment covers all grade Grade 4 and 5 Common Core Standards and is set up with PARCC like questions. There is also a differentiated section at the end of the assessment which covers MAPs skills for Operations and Algebraic Thinking.
This assignment provides specific goals for students and parents and provides online resources for students to master these goals as well as a place for them to document any struggles they have with the assignment.
This assessment is for 4LS1-1 and 4LS1-2. It has multiple written responses which assess student understanding of internal and external characteristics and how those behaviors support survival, growth, behavior, and reproduction.
Students will use line plots with fractional scales along with other types of graphs (differentiated based on MAPs range) to create an infomercial which supports an opinion.
This PARCC like assessment assesses students ability to convert measurements within the standard and metric system. It is aligned to Common Core Standards and also includes a section differentiated based on MAPS.
This assesses students ability to calculate and convert between measurements (time, liquid measurements, weight, and distances) as well as calculate rate problems!
This assessment can be used for an end of unit assessment or a pre-assessment. It assesses student knowledge of physics vocabulary (ex: force, weight, speed, etc.), students ability to identify different types of motion (variable, uniform, period), and student ability to identify factors that affect speed.
This quiz assesses student understanding of place value in whole numbers and decimals as well as their ability to round decimals and whole numbers and compute with decimals.
Students are a placed in the role of a biologist and are going to create an eBook which explains the internal and external characteristics of two living organisms, one a plant and one an animal.
This assesses students knowledge of 2D Geometry (parallel llines, rays, angles, etc.). It is a 12 question quiz, which asks students to illustrate and define each term.
This flipped assignment uses exercises from Khan Academy and IXL. It aligns with ranges in MAPs from 191-240+.
