I am writing this out to you after constantly modifying how I approach extemp over the last 15 years. My class typically has about 20 students in it and our class period is 48 minutes. What I do is not a hard and fast rule to approach the activity. It just works for me.

These organizers can be used for your novice extemporaneous speakers, regardless of whether they do US or International. These are also contained in the larger Extemp Unit.

This graphic organizer is best used by printing it off and handing it out to your debater(s) as they are learning what each speech type is and what they should be doing. I used to print these off and have students tape them to their expandos in the era of "paper debate". Now students keep them in their debate notebook.

This is a 1 week long unit for teaching Topicality to novice policy debaters.
