I created these for my own band classes to teach major scales and key signatures! We do the worksheet together and then they use it as a guide to learn their major scales. They can be reused for any type of 8 note scale. Includes Flute, Clarinet, Alto Sax, Tenor Sax, Trumpet, Horn, Baritone (BC), Trombone, Tuba and Mallet Percussion

Everything I've ever uploaded relating to Music History for my high school music appreciation class. All of my notes, presentations and a few activities.

This assignment has students practice assessing a concert band using the same criteria a judge would use at an assessment, festival or performance evaluation. This assignment follows the Virginia Band Directors Organization judge criteria, as it was originally designed for Virginia middle school band students. All you need to do is replace the 3 pieces with the pieces you would like to use. I would also suggest turning on "collect email addresses" to get your student's names and adjust any class

This is high school level reading activity about rap music, with corresponding questions. I used this in my high school music appreciation class.

Introduces students to intervals, going through both generic and specific (perfect, major, minor, triotone) intervals. Lots of visual examples and step by step animated practice! This worksheet helps students define timbre, then coming up with as many words as they can to describe it to create their own word bank, Then, using those words as a resource, they listen to examples from the teacher, and then their own examples. They then reflect on what timbres they like or don't like.

I created this for my music appreciation class during the pandemic as a weekly assignment. They would choose their own song to write about. This one is meant to be filled out virtually by making a copy for each student and having them fill them out on their own devices. But you could certainly print them if you wanted to! Not sure what to do those last few days before winter break? I gave this project to my high school music appreciation class to keep them occupied but still connect it to what we're learning in class. I had everyone choose a song (no doubling up) and they present right before we leave for break.

This assignment is for reflecting on an assessment, festival, evaluation, or any other judged performance. It has students reflect while listening to recordings of their performance, but with judges comments and without. You will need to edit the second question to make it appropriate for your class names. I find it easier to grade these if I can sort them by class name, when I have multiple classes doing the same assignment.

I couldn't find a Circle of 5ths Handout that I liked so I made one! This is my handout for all things related to major keys! It includes the Circle of 5ths, key signatures and the order of flats and sharps. It is in treble clef and bass clef!
