I have 16 years teaching experience. I began my career as a 2nd grade teacher. The majority of my career (13 years), I served as an elementary ELL teacher. In that capacity, I worked with students from kindergarten through sixth grade at all language development levels, but I most frequently worked with 3rd, 4th, & 5th grade students. Experience

I was an upper elementary Reading Teacher (grades 4-5) for two years, as well. I have also taught graduate classes at a local university for teachers seeking an ESL endorsement.

Teaching style

I believe in hands-on activities with lots of visual aids and graphic organizers! I believe in providing scaffold to students when they are being introduced to a new topic or skill, and then gradually removing scaffolds to allow students to move toward independence. I am constantly creating and making learning materials that will support the unique needs of students and engage them so that they can experience success and know that learning can be fun!

Awards & shining teacher moments

I have experience presenting half-day professional development seminars for teachers. For my own school district, I presented two "Teacher Toolkit" seminars for my colleagues that focused on student engagement and formative assessment. I have served as a mentor teacher to five first-year teachers and several teachers who switched from a classroom teaching position to an ELL teaching position.

My own education history

I earned a B.A. degree in Elementary Education with an endorsement in Early Childhood. I earned a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in English as a Second Language.
