In this activity, students will piece together a food web under the premise that they are explorers of an alien planet who observe the feeding habits of 15 organisms. The students create the food web, then answer a series of questions based on this food web. Alien Food Web is great for visual and tactile learners and can be used as the closing activity in a lesson on food webs and ecology. Depending on the grade level, the activity can be completed in one or two class periods. It comes with an a
These Powerpoint animations will help your students visualize the process of chemical bonding! The file contains three sets of animations: 1) the structure of an atom (Bohr Model), 2) ionic bonding, and 3) covalent bonding. The atomic structure animation shows the arrangement of electrons into energy levels as one progresses from one element to the next. The chemical bonds animations show the movement of electrons between atoms and the subsequent bonds that form between them.
The objective of this game is to practice communicating in a clear and precise manner. Working in pairs, one student is given a drawing, and the other is given a blank sheet of paper and a pencil. Neither student can see the other’s materials. Using only verbal instructions, the first student describes their drawing, and the second student attempts to reproduce the drawing on paper. Specific shapes within the drawings are designed to evoke familiarity. This familiarity can reveal the assumptions
If you already know how to work with animations in Powerpoint, this is the template that I used to create my Powerpoint countdown timers (see my other products). You can use this template to create your own timers of various lengths. The timer displays both the number of minutes and the number of seconds remaining. When it reaches 0:00, a red "Time's Up" signal flashes. The timer is pretty easy to create (and manipulate), actually. It's just labor intensive, so I figured I'd do the labor for ya.
This Powerpoint Jeopardy®-inspired game is based on "Invitation to Oceanography," by Paul Pinet, although the information should be standard for any high school or college-level oceanography course, regardless of textbook. The questions are also modeled after the National Ocean Sciences Bowl (NOSB). The game has six categories: marine biology, the chemistry of water, wind and ocean currents, more marine biology, geology, and marine ecology. Please download the free preview to get a feel for the
This program will allow you to turn any text you want into DNA codons! A common activity when teaching about DNA transcription during a genetics unit is to give students long segments of "DNA code," which they then translate into actual messages using a key you provide. Now, you can create your own messages for the students to transcribe and translate. The program will be delivered as a Word document.
This is a countdown timer that you can embed into your own Powerpoint presentation. The timer has five different durations (1:00, 2:00, 3:00, 4:00, and 5:00 minutes). All of them display both the number of minutes and the number of seconds remaining. When the timer reaches 0:00, a red "Time's Up" signal flashes. The timer is pretty easy to create (and manipulate, if you're inclined) in Powerpoint. It's just labor intensive, so I figured I'd do the labor for ya.
This is a 30-second countdown timer that you can embed into your own Powerpoint presentation. When the timer reaches 0:00, a red "Time's Up" signal flashes. The timer is pretty easy to create (and manipulate, if you're inclined) in Powerpoint. It's just labor intensive, so I figured I'd do the labor for ya.
