A high-interest writing activity, this Common Core compare and contrast outline has students comparing different products with eventually recommending a product. It comes with a five-paragraph outline, easy question starters for kids to lay out their writing, and an example I created for video games (which, as you know, make kids pay attention!) and a rubric.

Each year, I begin an inferences unit with this poem. It conquers multiple things:
1) Gets kids reading and talking poetry.
2) They have to do some expanded thinking and/or research.
