Hello! I'm Threasa (tah-re-sa). I've taught in various elementary grades K-5 including self contained gifted and now in inclusion classrooms targeting dyslexic learners. I'm a primary girl at heart who loves creating hands-on activities full of content, rigor, and fun for my upper grade learners! Exploding Watermelon Experiment-Kinetic Energy

This is a fantastic, hands-on, science experiment to do following a quick lesson on the difference between potential and kinetic energy. I have included a brief explanation of how I quickly teach this concept. The science: Once we release the rubber bands on the melon the potential energy being stored in the stretch is released and the squeeze is kinetic energy as the bands push to try and revert to their original size. My activities and resources reflect my teaching style. I love to integrate themes throughout the year and do as much hands on learning as possible while still keeping it research based. Literacy and math centers along with guided reading groups are important components of my classroom.
