This collection of movie trailers is aimed at older elementary to middle grade readers. You can cut the QR codes out and put them inside library books or classroom library books, or even make a display of them organized by genre in

First graders brainstorm what they would plant in their own garden (flowers, fruits, vegetables, etc.) and then listen to the Kevin Henkes story, 'My Garden'. After the story, students use their imagination to share what would grow (or be invisible) in their own special garden. After the class brainstorm, students write and illustrate their own version of 'My Garden.' Look for the corresponding lesson plan and Promethean flipchart.

This is a fun lesson for a Kevin Henkes author study unit. 8 QR codes are included. Students scan the QR code and watch/listen to a story or learn about how Kevin Henkes created his books! Print and cut out the individual qr codes and have students scan them using an iPod, iPad, or tablet. I found that having individual QR codes was much easier for students to scan. When there are multiple QR codes on one page, students often scan the wrong one by mistake. I like to cut them out and mount t

Are you tired of hearing groans from your students when you tell them they have to do a book report? I think that when students hear the words, "book report", they lose all of the fun and interest that should accompany reading. It is a PowerPoint template that has all of the links and required information that your students will need. They will simply open it and fill in the

This is a fun lesson for a Bill Peet author study unit. 8 QR code stories are included. Print and cut out the individual qr codes and have students scan them using an iPod, iPad, or tablet. I mount the QR codes on colored construction paper and laminate them for future use. I have found that when there are many QR codes on one page, the students have difficulty scanning the code they want. Cutting them apart makes it much easier. You can also punch a hole in the corner and put them on a ring

Reading Chart

Students will track their own reading progress by using an Excel spreadsheet to record the books they have read throughout the school year. The spreadsheet is formatted for the student to include the title, author, illustrator, date the book was read, a dropdown menu to rate the book, number of pages, recommendation, and the call number so their fellow classmates can find it if it is a library book. The number of pages will tally at the bottom. You can make the list longer by inserting rows.
