About the store

Experience

I have taught at both the middle and high school level language arts. I began teaching high school at the 9th and 11th grade levels, and taught these grades for 7 years. I recently made the transition to middle school where I teach 7th grade. While teaching I have taught a variety of students in a variety of settings included general education, co-taught with special education, Advanced, Honors, Gifted, and ESOL.

Teaching style

My teaching philosophy starts with getting to know my students. I do not believe that I can successfully teach my students unless they know that they are cared for in my classroom, and that I value them both as people and as learners. My daily setup in my classroom tends to include a mini lesson, a modeled activity, and time to practice on their own. I encourage grouping and partner work, and I describe my room as "controlled chaos"!

Awards & shining teacher moments

Teacher of the Year Finalist, 2019-2020 Instructional Leadership Award Recipient, 2020-2021 9th Grade Team Lead, 2017-2022

My own education history

I graduated high school from the Metro-Atlanta area, and knew that I wanted my future to include reading and writing. It wasn't until my sophomore year at the University of Georgia that I realized I wanted to get into education. I graduated with degrees in both English and English Education, and began teaching high school ELA immediately upon graduation. During my second year of teaching, I received my Gifted and Talented certification, and am currently working on my Master's in Instruction through Augusta University with an endorsement in ESOL.
