I am a DoDEA teacher of 19 years and counting. In that time, I have taught all elementary grades 1st through 5th, in 2 countries, 4 states, and 6 schools.
In this activity, students will follow geometric directions to create a fun mathematical Geometry-Tree (GeomeTree)! A fun winter break activity and a little vocabulary review as well! Who says you have to choose better fun and learning!?! :-)
On the first day of school, have the students complete this activity to tell what things they are looking forward to, worried about, scared of, hoping for...etc. They can share with the whole class, a small group, a partner, or just with you. But it's a great way to get to know the people you'll be spending the year with in your classroom.
This poster (can also be printed as a handout) will help guide students in making their sentences more detailed and specific; walking them through adding various pieces of information to their sentences to answer all questions the reader might have.
This is a bulletin board idea to show students exactly how changing the way they look at something can change how they feel about it. It contains emoji's on each page for an "Emoji'n the Possibilities" Emoji Theme, but the file is 100% editable so feel free to make it the best for you!
Students can use this foldable as a visual for a book report, designing their own book cover, or in any other way you can imagine. Just print the page, copy it for your students, let them design their own book cover for a writing piece or draw the cover of a book they're reporting on. Then cut, fold, and glue!

We all struggle with getting students to follow a good pacing, read with expression, and the many other important elements of being a good reader. This poster size printable let's students know - in 5 easy to remember rules - exactly what good readers do! Print, laminate, and display. It can also be printed smaller to have students use as a bookmark.
This poster gives students a graphic depiction of how to break a word apart to figure out how to pronounce it. It goes well with my "5 Golden Rules of Reading" poster since it's the 5th rule!
These two pages provide an area were students can draw a self-portrait and write a quick introduction to who they are. These can be shared in class as a public-speaking opportunity and are cute enough to be the bulletin board feature for the beginning of school.
This 100% editable activity would make a cute back to school bulletin board border! Students can complete the pennant on the first day of school and then have the rest of the month to read the others to get to know their classmates.
