About the store
Husband, father of six, Christian, and belletristic bibliomaniac, Jeremy is no stranger to the homeschool community. It was the filling of a need for a grammar/writing tutor at a local homeschool co-op that resurrected Jeremy’s lifelong desire to teach and make learning exciting. Though he holds a degree in art and graphic design, his stronger love for literature made teaching English a more natural choice. Currently, Jeremy uses his passion to teach middle and high school English at two locations in Wilmington, NC: One, a classical private school; the other, a homeschool community group. Jeremy has been honing his teaching skills since 2016.

About the store

Experience

Teaching style

Let's just say it! School is hard. Most kids would rather live a Tom Sawyer life and be footloose and fancy-free, than sit in a schoolroom for hours. With that understanding, Jeremy seeks to create worksheets and curriculum that create an engaging experience. Games. Hands-on projects. Art. Music. He uses it all. According to his students, English is never boring in Mr. Ackerman's classroom.

Awards & shining teacher moments

The honor of rocking students' worlds.

My own education history

Jeremy has five years of college experience to his name predominantly in fine arts and graphic design. He attended Temple University's Tyler School of Art and Hussian School of Art, both in Philadelphia, PA.

Additional biographical information

Jeremy and his beautiful wife, Kate, live outside of Wilmington, NC. They have six wonderful children: Benjamin (2004), Caroline (2005), Selah (2007), Caleb (2013), and twins, Hazel and Hope (2019). Jeremy doesn't have many hobbies aside from reading as many books as he can because, well, he has six kids.
