Experience

I am a newly certified teacher, and I had a GREAT virtual student teaching experience last semester. I have a lot of experience working as a tutor to children in China (virtually), as well as here at home while assisting at an academic camp. I absolutely love creating digital content that aligns with CCSS and the needs of students.

Teaching style

My teaching style can best be described as interactive and technology enhanced. Most of my teaching experience, including my student teaching practicum, has been virtual. I've had to find creative ways to keep students engaged, such as finding online math manipulatives that my class could use to compare fractions, Google Earth Projects to show students regions we were reading about, and Jamboards where everyone could answer a question in real time. I think it is so important for students to be engaged and actively participating. I have made use of e-books and YouTube read-alouds, but I look forward to the day when my students can select their own physical books from a classroom library, and are able to touch tools such as magnifying glasses and rulers that can enhance student learning. I am always looking for new ideas for fun, yet safe, learning materials to use in the classroom. I believe that students of all ages can benefit from having manipulatives to act as a scaffold to aid in the learning process. I feel that proficiency in technology is a 21st Century skill that all students should have in order to reach their full potential. Web 2.0 tools can be integrated into any subject area to enhance curricula and allow children to explore on their own. Lev Vygotsky believed in the concept of a more knowledgable other (MKO); someone with superior skills and knowledge who could assist a child in their learning. Besides teachers and peers, I believe technology can also act as a MKO to support children's evolving cognition in their zone of proximal development.
