Experience

I qualified as an elocution teacher in 1994 and have taught children as young as 4 and adults into their 90s. I have taught in schools and in businesses. I gave taught university lecturers, doctors, engineers, teachers, sports coaches and more how to speak clearly. Teaching style

I am passionate about what I teach and if your image of an elocution teacher is a lady in a tweed suit who sounds posh, think again. I live in jeans, baggy jumpers and high heels (heels because I'm short) and when not teaching I have a slight Dorset accent but I am passionate about my work and am incredibly serious (with a smile) when it comes to teaching my clients to sound confident.

Awards & shining teacher moments

1994 I qualified as an elocution teacher gaining my A.N.E.A. in Speech Training. In 2014 I passed my Fellowship gaining my F.V.C.M. (Honours). I have written an academic paper 'The effectiveness of learning to dance on people's ability to speak clearly and confidently with expression'. I have also written articles in various publications around the world.

Additional biographical information

I was a very shy child and so my mum took me to elocution lessons - my mum had gone as a young girl. I thoroughly enjoyed these lessons and took - and passed - various exams in speech and drama and bible reading and took part every year in the Bournemouth Festival. These lessons gave me confidence but didn't change the way I sound - I still have a Dorset accent (although when I teach I lose it!) and I believe we shouldn't all sound the same. You shouldn't be able to pick out people who've had elocution lessons because you think they sound 'artificial'. Having lived in Dorset on the South Coast of England for 59 years I have now moved to central Portugal.
