About the store
👋🏻 I have been teaching for over 15 years. In 2010, I graduated from Illinois State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Deaf Education. In 2019, I graduated with a Master's Degree in the area of Curriculum & Instruction - Reading Intervention Specialist. I am a certified Cued American English instructor and am fluent in American Sign Language. This store may start off as a conglomerate of resources, but if you're ever needing an idea brought to fruition, that's right up my alley! While creating resources isn't new to me, selling them is! I'm working to educate myself on the laws and regulations for selling my work. It may take me a bit of time to pull more resources together, but I look forward to the journey ahead!

18 Fridays is a data collection and graphing whole class activity. It can be printed as is or customized to fit your timeline and class size. The file is designed to be printed 24" by 24" but scales down nicely for whatever your printing heart desires. Data collection includes: Student attendance (pictograph) Temperature forecasts (line graphs) Weather forecasts (bar graph) Sunrise/Sunset (double bar graph) I was inspired to create this resource by a post I saw in a Facebook Group. There are plenty of fingerspelling options out there for use. However, I can never find one that I consistently liked, so I created one using my own hands. I'm in the process of creating a diverse color palette of skin tones, too. This resource is a downloadable font. Once installed, it can be used across programs on your device. I hope you find this resource helpful when you're customizing your space!

Teaching style

I believe that students, no matter their degree of hearing, should have access to language and communication. I advocate for filling your tool belt with as many skills and areas of knowledge that you can in order to serve our widely diverse students. I teach in a way that I wish I would have been taught as a student - explicitly, intentionally, and with a supportive understanding that theres always more than meets the eye.

Additional biographical information

What's up with the logo design? In the world of deafness, individuals are given sign names by deaf individuals. Because I'm always smiling, when we got married in 2010 my husband gave me a new sign name to go with my last name. The handshape used is a "V" and starts at the mouth. It moves up and back as if it were extending my smile. Our last name is Van Valey, hence the two V's and the way my sign name is taken to a page.
